Hello, I am new here and need to find a good school for my daughter, who is in 10th grade. She wants to do something "different" than the traditional 1,500 student high school, so I have been checking out options. Does anyone have any info to share about Hillside New Tech or City of Medicine Academy? There doesn't seem to be a lot online about them. I did find the school report cards online. I'd like to hear some stories from people with experience with either of these schools. Any info will be greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Sam

I would go with the City of Medicine Academy if she can get in. The Hillside New Tech has always struck me as a tech school to get some of the kids there a job skill since alot of them don't attend college (I don't know this for fact and didn't research it, so take it for what it is). The City of Medicine Academy is still kinda new but I know alot of my former students that are going there and they are having some good experiences. If she aspires to be in the medical field or a nurse that would be a good choice. It is housed in a wing of Northern High School which doewn't have that good of a rapport, but is totally seperate unless she plays sports.

I would choose Hillside New Tech, please if you haven't chosen any school, hillside new tech is a great choice. The reason Hillside new tech doesn't have people going to college is because their first year was 2007-2008, so they only have Juniors right now, don't mistake it with Hillside High School, it is located inside Hillside High School but it is way Different. Hillside new tech is an all Honors High School, offering AP Credits, it originated from a School in NAPA valley California, these schools offer students a way different and individual experience by integrating technology into every subject class. Learning is done through Project Based learning, that is by Assigning students projects relevant to real life and based on the material they learn. WHY do I know so much about this school? Because I'm a very satisfied former student of this School, only reason I left is because I moved away. Here's a link to the New Tech's foundation site New Tech-About Innovative Instruction, Culture, Technology (http://www.newtechnetwork.org/about.html - broken link)
Best Wishes and Welcome to the Triangle, David Mireles

The best way to learn about a school is to visit, because the majority of these people posting things have NO IDEA what they're talking about.
