I am looking for suggestions for a relaxing spot within 4 hours drive of Raleigh for a Spring/Summer get away.

Would like a low-key location, where we can just sit around, read a book, hike, etc. Would prefer a full-service hotel. Planning on a weeks stay.

Thanks for feedback.

I would add Pinehurst to the above.

An hour south of Raleigh, old southern charm, nice little village to explore. My wife and I go every few years and neither of us plays golf ...

we have gone to the outer banks - kitty hawk area - as early as late March (in an early spring year) it has been gorgeous. In fact, I love all of the NC beaches before the weather gets too hot, so I really like them from March to May and then Sept-early Nov. Especially May and September because more things are open as it gets closer to season.

It's not full service, but we had a great time at Shell Island at Wrightsville Beach. This is a slide presentation I did of the weekend:

Each suite is independently owned. They do have a restaurant.

I went to the Outer Banks in March two years ago. It was a perfect time to crawl around the sand dunes of Jockey Ridge State Park. It's like playing in a GIANT sand box. It's beautiful. http://www.jockeysridgestatepark.com/
