I've got jury duty tomorrow and called in to see if I was required to go, but am totally confused by the phone message. Here's what it said:

"Jurors number 1-62 and 224-266 need to call this phone number after noon tomorrow to find out if they are needed."

My number is around 90. So do I go, or am I excused?

I wish the message had said something like, "All other jurors need to do...(whatever)." I'm confused - has anyone else dealt with something like this?

Tomorrow is my only day off, and if I don't have to go, I'd like to know in advance so I don't waste a trip down there. Does anyone know how to interpret the phone message??
Thanks --

I would just go. Maybe you can get credit for going even if they don't need you so you don't have to deal with this for a few more years.

I called the number, and you're right to be confused. This does not sound like the voice I heard when I called a couple months back for my jury date. Perhaps it was recorded by someone inexperienced with the task.

It doesn't say what the other numbers should do. I'd say that gives you a valid reason for not showing.

The question is, will you freak out waiting for the next letter, or not give it a second thought?

And Mike has a good point, this may just give you an out if you show up. Let us know what you do.

My gut says that from 63 to 223 is too many people for them
to mean to show up in the morning.

But maybe they are not mailed out in order??

Hey..if you go you get that huge check that may buy your lunch

The clerk of court site has this for jury instructions

"The Jury Message Line will provide information as to which jurors are to report for jury duty the next day. "

Technically that means it did not instruct you to report...
That is how I read it anyway..

I'm pretty sure you're off the hook. You are not 1-62 nor 224-266. If it would make you feel better, make a recording of the recording, just in case anyone calls you on it...but this is pretty clearly only requesting those specific numbers to take further action.

I do agree that they should have said "Any other number is excused." And why have a gap in the numbers--if they wanted 105 people, just take 1-105, not two nonconsecutive ranges.
