I got invited to go tonight and I must admit I'm excited. I grew up on "Little House" so to see the original Half Pint (Melissa Gilbert) is pretty special.
Well, saw the production and it was just great. If you have children and they are familiar with the Laura Ingells Wilder books this is a must and as an adult I loved as well. We had free tickets but I see the tickets aren't cheap which is too bad.
The actress who played Nellie Olsen absolutely stole the show. I had the chance to have my picture taken with her and the actor who played Almonzo and found out he was from North Carolina and UNC and just adorable.
Now, Melissa Gilbert was another story. She played Ma Ingalls which was a little strange and managed to do okay with her singing voice. We were a small group that waited around to meet her. Apparently if you go behind the building the actors will come out and sign autographs. Miss Gilbert seemed disinterested in meeting us and that was disappointing. I told her I feel like I grew up with her as Laura and she said nothing. She did answer me when I asked her how she liked our great state. We all walked away wondering was she tired or just have a lack luster personality. But overall, I would recommend this production.
I'm sorry to hear that Melissa was chilly to the fans. I mean, "Little House" has been her cash cow since she was a kid, and no matter HOW sick she is of hearing the same statements about "I've loved you since I was a kid" (and I'm sure she hears them 1000 times a day), she might be waiting tables somewhere without the LH phenomenon, and the least she can do is turn on the smile for her fans for 15 minutes. I had read her interview about this production and she seemed enthusiastic then--but that was probably her "press persona". Oh well. Glad you liked the show!
