Have you explored the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area at all yet? Each is diverse with a different flavor all it's own. It truly depends on your lifestyle, wants and needs. Personally, I am a huge proponent of the Raleigh area. Before anyone on the board jumps on that - I love all of the areas, I just personally like the Raleigh area because that is where I live. Specifically, the North Raleigh area and Northern Wake County. Regardless, any of the cities provide a similar commute to the RTP area. Let me know if you need some links for the area and I would be happy to send them. Good luck!
North Raleigh and Cary appealed to us. We are not party folks. Just want to be close to parks, bike paths or maybe even a lake. We are not looking at cookie cutter homes.
Again, partial to North Raleigh. However, Cary is beautiful and has a variety of homes and neighborhoods that are apprealing! Variety in price range, style and neighborhood amenities. There is some fabulous dining and shopping in Cary as well! North Raleigh has a multitude of neighborhoods! Some revolve around a golf course, others are gated and some appeal to more "neighborhood-type" activities. North Raleigh is a different feel than Cary. Cary, in my opinion, is a separate city all to itself. It remains autonomous and is self-sustained. Great place to live. With North Raleigh you feel like you are part of the sum. Did that make sense? While in North Raleigh some neighborhoods evoke a feeling of seclusion while remaining within reach to vital needs such as shopping, commutes to work, dining and other extraneous leisure activitues. Depends on your taste.
Fellow Canadian....It depends on how much you want to spend and the lifestyle you want to live. I used to live in Toronto and chose to live inside the beltline to be close to 2 of the best schools Lacy and Broughton with the old time feel without the cookie cutter feel of the big developments.
