I want to start my 2 year old in some kind of preschool program to start to get her used to seperating. I have had some suggestions but they all seem to start @ 9am. She usually doesn't wake up until 9:30 & then hates to be rushed. The transition is going to be hard enough for her but that early of a start is a recipe for disaster. I am open open to any suggestions including church based schools or even some type of drop off program for only a couple of hours. Two times a week or even one is fine. My main goal @ first is to have her seperate in a fun & caring environment. She is fully potty trained if that matters. Near the Cary/Apex area would be preferred. Thanks!

Since I didn't work when my kids were little, I never put them in any type of day care. When they were in their 2's, I looked for a Mother's Morning Out for them. Most of the local Churches have them but they did all start around 9AM.

When they were 3, I sent them to Raleigh PreSchool for 2 mornings a week. Raleigh Pre School also had an afternoon class. When they were 4, I sent them to Raleigh PreSchool for 3 mornings a week and then they were ready for Kindergarten.

If you don't like the idea of the Mother's Morning Out, there are now places that let you drop off your child by the hour. Age 2 is difficult to start because of the seperation anxiety...so be prepared!

Vicki

The only thing that comes to mind is as Vickie mentioned one of the drop in daycares. No real cirriculum or anything to speak of. Kids just play. I used Right Time Kids in Cary off of 64 near Tryon when I had doctor's appointments for my ds. Never had any complaints. He was never there more than an hour or so tho.

First suggestion: Have you tried putting her to bed at night a little earlier? Maybe she'll start waking up before 9:30.

Second suggestion: During the summer preceeding my son's 4th birthday, we took him to "Imagine That" preschool, which is on Ten Ten Rd, right at highway 1. They are VERY flexible with their program (i.e., 2, 3, or 5 days a week) and the classes run from 9am to 1pm. The price was also reasonable and there was not a wait list to get in. Even a year later my son still talks about it.

Grace church preschool on Kildaire Farm starts at 9:30 and has a M/W class for 2 year olds. Try easing her into waking up a little earlier each day until you get her up at an time more conducive to typical preschool hours.

If separation is the only reason you're looking, I recommend waiting. The separation anxiety is developmental, and it will be much easier later. Many children do have to learn the separation thing at two, but that is usually out of necessity, so parents can go to work.

Default you might try looking into PMO (parents morning out)

the church based PMO programs (ones that are not connected with the typical 9am preschool programs) might have later start times. the standard 9am part time preschool programs start that early because they wrap up at noon & there is no lunch involved (either brought by the child or provided by the school). when lunch served by the school is an option, that starts to fall into the range of daycare (both in ratings, cost to parents and length of time of the program).
i hope you find a program that starts at 10am & runs for 3 or 4 hours, but keep in mind that food may be involved, beyond the basic snack. if you think you child cant handle being up & out the door by 10am for 3 or less times per week, honestly, it might be better to wait another year. drop in childcare is an option, but as a previous poster mentioned, there is no curriculum. seperation issues also could be a problem there if the drop in staff has high turnover.
do you live in a neighborhood with lots of families with small children? if you do, i would encourage you to make friends & see if you can put together a small, informal child care co-op.
good luck, let us know how things work out.
