the additional train service starts at 11:50am today and as an introductory offer Amtrak is reducing the ticket price by 40% during June

having 3 trains in each direction everyday is a big improvement on the current two trains and it will be interesting to see if ridership increases as a result. The N&O article makes no mention of any subsidy but I am sure there must be one to induce Amtrak to invest in the additional service.

This is fabulous! I'll use it for sure and I never have before. Maybe next weekend.

Has anyone ever taken it to go to the science museum in Charlotte? Are there taxis? Do you know how much they are?

Well, I was checking the price:

"An error (500 Internal Server Error) has occured in response to this request."

Anyone know a ballpark number (weekend)?

Per the N&O:

Normal one-way fares are $25 from Raleigh to Charlotte and $11 from Raleigh to Greensboro.
DOT is offering a 40 percent discount on tickets used by June 30. Details are available by calling 800-BYTRAIN or online at bytrain.org.

Amtrak is already subsidized by tax dollars. A couple billion a year IIRC.
