ok, Now lets talk about food...specifically fish...we here in TX have two choices of fish in the market..Catfish and Tilapia sometimes, like 3 times a year they get shark steak in. I LOVE fish!! And am depressed to find such a limited supply here, of course the fishing here is mostly crappie, catfish and bass..I get excited when we get a bass!
Would love to find halibut, trout, and salmon in the store!
Even fish for trout!
What about Sushi?? yes gotta have my sushi fix ever so often..anything like that around? Japanese type places to eat.
Good steaks? You think here in Texas we would be steak king! But there is hardly ANY steaks in the stores, maybe three or four different cuts to choose from including hamburger meat! LOL Must be shipping it out somewhere....
Walleye is the fish of choice here. There are channel cat. Both are found on the Missouri. Seafood has to be flown in, and shipping makes it spendy, and rare. It is one of the few things I don't like about living here.
There are a couple of sushi places in Rapid, again something I want to try but have never been able to get er done.
I LOVE seafood too!! I'm afraid Red Lobster is really the best seafood place around - other places have a few good seafood dishes as well.
Um dare I say frozen fish is what we mostly have - we cook a lot of fish (Talapia, salmon, cod, and Orange Roughy), crab, and shrimp (some lobster) at our house (we usually just get it from Sam's club), but it's not as good as fresh of course! They key is either to fish, or have friends that fish so you can have some fresh stuff!!
Some of my favorite places in Denver were seafood restaurants (fresh fish company and Landrys) mmmmm
We have some good steaks here but you have to really watch for them
If you're used to the variety and quality of seafood from either the Gulf of Mexico or Puget Sound area the availability of decent seafood here is VERY limited. (We occasionally have SIL in Pensacola or friends on Whidbey get us some and have it packed and overnighted to us.) I'm not wild about the fw fishing here either - all we do is 'catch and release'. There is a Red Lobster here.
Steaks - they're OK but for the best you need to be able to go to the Commissary at Ellsworth - I've yet to get a steak from there that wasn't well above average.
edit added - The Silverado has an all you can eat buffet of Prime Rib and King Crab Legs on Friday or Sat night. Last Dec the Gold Dust was having all you could eat shrimp (several different recipes). Deadwood Casinos.
Well at least there IS a sushi bar there and you CAN get frozen...we get frozen nothing here! Just fresh catfish, tilapia and catfish,catfish,catfish...sick of catfish!
We LOVE to fish, never had walleye.
Well it sounds like some decent food anyway, I am spoiled the 2 years we lived in Oregon there was TONS of variety of fresh seafood, heck you could go buy it right off the boats that came in...sigh...
Prime rib? I like to fix that myself. Good prime is really simple to fix. Salt, pepper, onion flakes and rosemary.
