I think there has been some consolidation, as well as a number of agents leaving the Realtor Board because of the dues (that doesn't mean they gave up their LICENSES though - just their status as Realtors).

There have been a couple of well known local professionals who have taken on other careers and are now only pursuing real estate on a part time basis. The question will be whether or not they have permanently or only temporarily left the business (full-time) - and will jump back in when the market turns around (whenever that is in the future).

My question (and I've asked it before) is how you all see real estate (as a PROFESSION and as a BUSINESS MODEL) changing in order to be in a better position on the other side. The consensus seems to have been that the true professionals will always find a way to succeed and, while I agree with that I was wondering what people see as fundamental changes are coming in our business...any thoughts?

Good questions Dave. I think that companies need to adjust the business models to start with. They also need to find a way to get young professionals into the industry rather than attracting retired dabblers. The average age of an agent is 54 and they typically are not very tech savvy.

Great quote I saw: "The internet isn't going to replace real estate agents but agents with internet skills will replace real estate agents."

Not being tech savvy is something I have noticed also. My broker is smart in that he is recruiting those that have tech skills or come from industries or professions in technology fields.
