Low rent for work done (http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/apa/1907794275.html - broken link)

This has to be the one for me. Lets see. You fix up this house for free and then buy the finished property after you've fixed it up! Where do I sign up
Paying to do labor? Almost as good as working for free!!
Doesn't sound like anything malicious to me but doesn't sound too well thought out either.....

What is normal rent for a 1 br in the area?

This is not an unusual deal at all. I know a few guys when I was younger that did that all the time. They worked their regular job, got very low rent and worked on the house at night and on weekends. It worked out great for them.

The only thing is if someone is planning on buying it they should work out a purchase agreement before hand. This may also help some people that may be able to get a VA or FHA loan, the home in it's current condition might not qualify for a loan but may qualify after the work is done.
