I just bought a house with pinkish tan paint on the walls, ceilings and trim. I hate it - I will try samples of these suggestions on my walls. (I already have done about 7 samples but don't like any of them.) I'm looking for a warm neutral tan/beige, not too dark and no pink undertones! Thanks for the suggestions.
I don't know if this is too dramatic for you or not, but Behr Ryegrass has no pink. We have it in our bedroom and love the color. I see it getting mentioned now on some decorating forums, too.
Kilim Beige has the nickname "builder beige" in some areas because it's become so pervasive.
I love a color by Behr called Sand Dollar White. It's not white, but it's a color that seems to adjust itself to the light in whatever room it's in, so it goes with just about anything. With white trim, it's not boring while still being absolutely neutral.
As for white ceilings, having had listings with rooms that had white ceilings and rooms that weren't, they tend to brighten the room considerably no matter what color the walls are.

again, I roll on the floor with laughter, thanks for the laugh today !!!
I agree with most of the OP, leave the ceilings alone, any neutral color will do, it will be clean, and that is what you are looking for. I would just go to HP or Lowes and pick out the cheapest off white they have and wrap it up and call it a day.
An update: I asked the painter what the most common neutral paint color was that he used and he suggested "Antique White" by Behr with the trim in "Ultra White" I think. Anyway, they were very neutral colors. Besides painting, we had the hardwood floors refinished, completely remodeled a tiny bathroom and replaced vinyl floors with tile in a second bathroom. (Got the tile for .57/sf at Home Depot). Then we proceeded to clean the heck out of the house, including windows, blinds, ceiling fans, etc.
It appears to have paid off as we got a good offer 12 days after we listed it. We're still in the inspection phase, but so far, so good.
Thanks to everyone for the responses. I learned a lot from this thread and others on here about how to make a home appealing to potential buyers.
Builders beige. Since apparently no homebuyer can ever look past your color scheme.
