I am going to be listing my house for sale (on Long Island). When we bought our Ranch house (it was built in the 1950`s) we converted an attached 2 car garage that was on the other side of the house into our Master bedroom/Master bath. The original Master bedroom became our sons room. It did not have a private master bath inside of the room, but the full bathroom is right next to it.
My question is this...would it make a difference to refer to the house as having 2 master bedrooms - or should we just list it as just a regular bedroom? (we have 5 total) I have seen listings state having 2 masters, but not sure what qualifies a room to be a *Master bedroom*....to me it just usually means the larger bedroom. Does the fact that it does not have its own private entrance bathroom just make it a regular bedroom? It does have two separate closets. When we purchased the house it was listed as the Master, but we knew when we first saw the house that we would be doing major renovations so it did not mean anything to me.
At the end of the day, it doesnt really matter - just wondered others opinions on what qualifies as a Master. Thanks!
In the Chicago area, if a listing said it had 2 master bedrooms I would expect to find two bedrooms with en suite bathrooms. I would also expect them to be a pretty good size. Of course if no bedroom has an en suite bath, then it tends to be the largest one that is considered the master.
The definition of a master bedroom may vary by location though.

Thank you for the replies.....I think I will just list it as a 5 bedroom and leave it at that. The agent can always mention that it was the original Master bedroom when showing. ~K
