There's a house near me that has been on the market for over 400 days. The price is well above comps, and hasn't been changed a single time since the house was listed (standard sale, nice house in good condition). I'm not considering buying it, and it doesn't really affect me, but every time I see the listing it makes me curious what the story is. I wonder what's going on there. One of the couple doesn't really want to sell? It's a honeypot for the listing agent to find new buyer clients? Hoping to wait out the market until the price is realstic (it's gonna be a while)? Something else?
I have to think that if they really wanted to sell, they'd have at least tried lowering the price by now. But why would an agent waste time on a house that clearly isn't going to get sold?

Anyone want to venture a guess?
Maybe something to do with divorce. One half can afford to sit on it while putting the other in monetary pain. Just a guess.
I have watched a house list, drop price, relist, and cycle through, year after year for 3-4 years. It is 6500+ square feet on 5 acres with a pool and guest house. I don't know what they're thinking. It's the biggest house in the middle of normal sized houses.
Been there done that. We spent time trying to buy one. Total waste of time. Not sure why agents would want to be associated with an overpriced listing.
I have seen rental homes continually on the market.
Seller isn't inconvenienced and willing to sell to anyone who will meet the price.
Agent related to seller, or willing to hold the listing as a personal favorite.
As usual, every seller has their story.
