I don't have HGTV but if they post it to their website I'll definitely be checking it out
After DH & I bought our single owner, deceased estate ranch house (built 1959) last year, I actually went OTT nosy and researched the deceased owners who lived here on ancestry.com! From the census records I was able to see where in St. Louis they lived in 1940 and where they grew up (the husband and wife literally lived 2 streets away from each other growing up- so being Catholics as evidenced by the paraphernalia left throughout the house I decided that they probably either met at the local school, or at a Catholic Church that was within walking distance of them both). Even back in the day, the area of St. Louis they grew up in was a poorer working class neighborhood- so buying this house in the suburbs in the 1950s must have made them feel like they really 'made it'.
I found out a lot more beyond that, but that's the main gist of it.
They really,
really looked after this house and evidently loved it. Knowing 'who they were' without actually meeting them gives me more love and respect for my house. I'm so thankful to them for looking after it the way they did!
