The side of the speaker cabinet is cracked in a few places and smashed in a bit. There's internal damage that is evident when you listen to the speaker (it sounds pretty bad) and manually move the driver (instead of moving freely it scrapes against what is likely smashed wood on the inside.) So, it's pretty toast.

$1250 for the pair. These speakers are built and sold as a matched pair as the cabinets are cut from a single block. You can't buy just one.

If it were just a driver or something than yes, but since the cabinet is damaged, unfortunately no.

That would be nice if we could get away with it, but even if, we already paid our last rent.
Obviously, it is the person who knocked over the speaker, but you will never have that person claim responsibility. Even if you are able to pinpoint the exact group that was in your house, they will claim they didn't do it. How do I know that? Because if they were upstanding people, they would have left a note saying they accidentally broke it, and their contact information. They broke something and walked away. You will never get them to admit it.
So, buy a new speaker, or file a claim with your insurance company; it's your choice. It's an unfortunate situation.
On the contrary. The landlord/real estate agent/property manager is responsible.
I left the selling Realtor/property manager a voicemail yesterday and today - no response yet.
I kind of like the idea of leaving a final message that you intend to call the police to file a report if you don't hear back before 4pm today. Treat it like it was vandalism. You have a pretty tight list of suspects for the PD to track down. I hate people who don't live up to their responsibilities and this isn't a petty issue.
I feel like bbronston. Sometimes our minds get clouded with too many facts.
Objective facts.
You came home.
Your home was vandalized as evidenced by the destruction of the speaker.
Call the police. Say you looked around carefully and nothing else was damaged...if that's the case.
Give names of who was in your house. With their numbers is you have them.
Hopefully it's a high enough amount of loss and a slow enough day for the officer to make some calls.
After the officer leaves call whoever you already called to let them know it's with the police now. And when you find out who it was, since it took so long and no one owned up, you will contact the real estate authorities about this great breach of ethics.
It's amazing how much group pressure can bring out the real culprit. The realtors who know for sure it wasn't their groups can compare notes and bring pressure on the one it seems to be. It may also be one of them is known for being somewhat careless in his/her work.
The landlord would not be responsible unless he was showing the home at the time. Whoever not over the speaker would be to blame. However, it doesn't appear that you can prove that a specific group caused the damage. It's a shame that the responsible person didn't step forward.
The best you can hope for is replacement cost. Given the size and weight you stated, I am assuming they are good quality speakers but several years old. Currently you can't give those speakers away, (I have a set and tried). So don't expect much.
