dang! Just rented a house for 7 months while we build another - could have gotten a 10x20 unit for $190 a month. But it would be cold in a Missouri winter.

A little propane heater and a coffee can will do you just fine!
Actually tent camping equipment; catalytic heater, porta-potty, Coleman lantern & stove, cot worked for a cousin for about a year, so my Uncle told me. It helped that he knew the site manager.
I'm surprised any storage unit owner would tolerate it. He is getting paid for storage space with the idea that the renter might turn on the overhead light for half an hour a couple of times a month. The electric bill for someone living and cooking and heating a storage unit could be quite high and could pretty easily be over the amount of the rent for the unit. Not to mention that the wiring most likely isn't heavy enough for that sort of usage.
And then there is a sewage issue.
The last storage unit I had to rent before I moved would only allow you to go past the gates after a certain time. I doubt they let cars their overnight either. The last one I used had gate access to get into the place beyond the office, and you had to put a code int to get to the inside area and cameras everywhere.
Plus the inside units are climate controlled so you don't have to worry about heat or cold. But another problem is that someone can lock you into your unit from the outside.
When I first moved to Florida I had to keep my stuff in one and I think there were homeless people that kept their things there and would be there daily.
You can spend all day there if you have a place to go at night and I doubt they could say anything.

I can't believe the storage unit owner would RISK it. Obviously, there's no COO, so it's illegal housing. I don't have any idea what the penalties would be, but I gotta believe they aren't insignificant. And the liability issues? I think the owner needs a very large doses of common sense.
There is also the little matter of what exactly are storage unit residents doing in there. It could be "just" running up a higher utility bill for the facility owner, or it could be cooking meth, or dealing, or who knows what. No windows and an under-the-radar presence add up to high likelihood of undesirable residents/activities.
All the storage places I have seen strictly prohibit someone from living inside the unit. It's a huge liability for the business. That particular person in the video was very creative in his setup (and lucky) that nobody caught on before he was gone.
it's too bad there are not more studio type housing units built for lower income people so they don't have to be homeless.
This isn't Snow Crash. But then you would have NIMBY preventing something like that from happening.
