I think the OP and you are talking about different moms. Moms that forge their children's names on credit cards and HELOC's aren't people that do well with reasonable conversations. The mom sounds toxic.
I'm thinking if there isn't a good legal recourse situation, then the son just needs to walk and take the credit hit. It's only 7 years of credit issues, but mom could live to be 100. The son would still be ahead in moving on with his life.
