This is sad for the owners. I can't imagine buying a property then finding out it was a landfill.

In the 1990s as the suburbs grew further west of the city, expensive houses were being built. An active landfill that had been around for decades was not disclosed to the new homeowners . Some of the houses had quite a view after the trees dropped their leaves.

Due diligence. Before buying any property a little research is prudent. Even for tract/development homes. But when building a one-off house? A no brainer.

Lots of subdivisions in lots of cities are built on old dumps. It's not that uncommon.
