Maybe you didn't read my earlier post when I did offer my advice/opinion on the thread topic. Later in the conversation, the "immigrant" issue was introduced and I then commented on that. Pleae read the thread before you react to a later post after the topic got a bit skewed. Don't pretend that you are the moral authority or a forum moderator.
I posted my opinion on a comment that was made that I disagreed with and nothing more. Don't read more into it than that. We don't have to agree and I can live with that.
You are the one that brought race into the thread. Those of us that live down here near the border already know about the problems of illegal immigration and it's from multiple races if that is the way you want to bend it. There is one thing static, open border. That and stupid policies that let it continue. Don't "PRETEND" that isn't happening or that it isn't a problem because it is.
OP was looking for solutions not comments from social justice warriors.
Excellent point. We let the Irish in, and now everybody gets drunk on St. Patrick's Day.
The Italians came, and now we're confronted with biscotti every time we buy coffee.
Not... biscotti!

It’s been happening in my Northern California neighborhood for years. People bought houses with the intent of chopping them up for multiple tiny apartments. And then they would rent them at a lower cost to lower income people. Nobody cared here because this is a lower income neighborhood. It’s also common for people to insulate their garages and turn that into a couple of bedrooms. I have a family in my neighborhood living in a two bedroom one bath house with five people. They make it work.
I also know that when I sell my place somebody’s going to come in and they’re gonna look at it and then they’re going to rejigger this house, and in my opinion screw it up. But it won’t be my house anymore and I won’t be here to see it, because I’m moving out of state.
Not because I’m a California hater, but because I’m heading back to where I came from which was my plan to begin with when I moved out here 30 some years ago.
One big problem with flophouses is they become fire hazards. This is because the electrical systems weren't designed to accommodate that many people. When those electrical strips with multiple plugs are being used all over the home, it's a fire hazard. Plus many of these older homes have never updated their electrical wiring. They still have old fuse boxes. I was surprised to learn that in older houses, when the wiring was done, the wiring in the walls was wrapped in cloth---yikes!
Then, with too many people using the sinks, tubs and toilets it's ripe for having the plumbing fail. Plus, in some flophouses with only one bathroom, the residents use the backyard as a second bathroom.
At the turn of the 20th century, a concerted effort was made to shut down overcrowded tenements. Never would I have guessed that we would be in this type of situation yet again. The big difference now is that too many local politicians turn a blind eye to this problem. Or if they make any laws, they are ones that have no teeth in them. In my town, they made a stupid law that says, basically, that overcrowding is okay as long as everybody in the house is related. Of course, we all know that it doesn't matter if everyone is related, a fire hazard is still a fire hazard. Never mind that the flophouse residents now all know that if their house gets reported, when the inspector shows up, all they have to say is "We're all related" and life goes on.

Good points and informative. Thanks
I'm also concerned about all their vans that constantly break down. They take up 80% of the block and everything feels so much more toxic now.
No. I'm pretty sure it's all the big vans and their exhaust fumes.
