The first few years are vital.

A less desirable school district may have wonderful teachers, or they may have average ones. But what they will generally have are more students with more needs and a district that is strapped for funds.

You want your child in the kindergarten where the teacher has the resources, and the class size that supports a wonderful introduction to school, not a kindergarten where the teacher is struggling with a too full classroom where a third of the students are on IEPs, and the copy paper allotment runs out in December.

Good luck.
Our kindergartner goes to a charter school now but the high schooler hasnt been accepted to one yet.

Also- in the OP it was supposed to say budget will be 600k. Not husband will be 600k

It might less expensive and more effective college prep to send the high schooler to a private school. It depends on how many years he has left. If both parents pay for it, it will not be so bad.
