You mean if there are 2 people living in the 1BR?
I can't speak for @ddeemo, but I'd prefer a 1.5BA over 1BA if I only had 1BR and was the only person living in the unit. While this wouldn't be a deal breaker and wouldn't matter 99% of the time, it would be good to have more flexibility for having a "guest" bathroom if I'm entertaining or just having extra wiggle room if someone is staying over.

As for the dookie, if I can not present my guests with a foul smell if I had to go before they came over, then I say why not? Yes, it's natural and expected, but sometimes I don't need to be smelling certain things

My wife and I did not have children but our minimum was 3 bedrooms, 2.5 baths with one of the baths being private to the master bedroom.

If I had children, I would want each sex to have their own bedroom (could be two of same sex in each room) and a bath for the kids. A Jack and Jill bath would be ideal for the kids.

Do you want to smell it?

In any case its about a desire for privacy.

No - half bath for guests. BTW - my DW wont let me rent less than 1.5 Ba if kids are along.

I could never do 1 bathroom. I didn't even have 1 bathroom when I was living alone. I don't want guests seeing all of my personal stuff.

I do have kids (2 of them). We have 3.5 baths. It would honestly be hard to even go to 2.5 now. Currently, we have one bathroom for the kids (Jack and Jill connecting their bedrooms), one bathroom for overnight guests (connects to the guest bathroom), the large owner's bathroom connected to our bedroom, and a half bath downstairs for folks just visiting. I love that we all have our own spaces. And, yes, I would give up a bedroom before I gave up a bathroom.

For me, part of this depends on the layout. I personally would not live anywhere that didn't have at a minimum at least a powder room on each floor. A full bath (a stand up shower and no tub is fine) is even better because things happen - for instance, my first floor doesn't have a full bath, just a powder room. And it doesn't have a bedroom. But if I broke my leg and needed to not go upstairs for a while, it would be nice to have a full bath even if I was sleeping in the living room temporarily. But with at least the powder room, I could figure it out somehow. So to me, that is a minimum requirement.

Beyond that, my personal preference is to have a separate master bathroom attached to the bedroom. And unless my circumstances change to the point where I can't make the choice, I would not live someplace that didn't have a second bathroom (or a second bedroom). Not a necessity, but a strong enough preference that I just wouldn't.

Serious question, who are all these overnight guests you're having?
Since I've been married, I have not had an overnight guest ever, since no more dating and hookups.
I can easily foresee never having an overnight guest again for the rest of my life.

Ok, so you don't want to share a BA with your wife.
But, why 3 BRs? What are the 2 empty BR's for?

I'd imagine 1 master bedroon + 1 guest bedroom + 1 home office/hobby room or something like that. There's also the fact that in many older homes the closets are nowhere near big enough to accommodate a couple's clothes, so one of the bedrooms gets cannibalized as a giant walk-in closet.

I'm single and I refuse to consider buying anything less than 3BD/2.5BA, ideally 3BD/3.5BA+Study or 4BD/3.5BA, and 2BD/2.5BA only if there was an extra space for a home office.
