Do any of you ever go out and look at a specific neighborhood (i.e. look at some houses there, make a few visits, scope the area out), write the neighborhood off initially, but then revisit it once realizing that your options area limited?

I am debating about moving into town from acreage. I've been driving around different neighborhoods. Supposedly nice ones. There's something wrong with all of them. Starting with small lots. I just came across 4 acres in town. Although the house is ok, it's very dated and not in a quality way. It would involve a complete tear out or flooring, getting rid if hideous wall paper, etc. All doable except it's on a busy street. Sure, it's far back from the street, but a lot of other residential streets feed into it. Then it feeds into an even busier street a few blocks away. It makes some of the smaller lots in a less busy area look good. It also makes staying where I am look more desirable. So, yes. It's making me aware that I can't have it all and I will have to compromise eventually. *Cries

Yes absolutely. We knew exactly what town we wanted to live in and there weren't any 'bad' areas but initially we didn't shop homes in a few neighborhoods because they felt too much like the neighborhood we were moving from. We were hoping to live in something newer, something different, but it turned out most of those homes had odd floorplans, too many stairs, shared driveways, or steep yards requiring retaining walls and whatnot. In the end we realized that living in a traditional neighborhood of single level homes on flat lots was fit our needs better.
