I'm considering buying a home with 3 utility poles on the sidewalks surrounding the property: one on the back fence, one on the top right corner, one about 10 feet away next to the driveway. All are about 10 ft from the house. It seems that the lines for all 4 streets originate on my property. Multiple lines (5+) overhang the home and backyard. Unfortunately I don't have the chance to use a meter to detect levels, as the offer is due today.

I don't mind the unsightliness of it but am primarily concerned about my health and secondarily the resale value.

I've done a lot of research and searched this forum but haven't seen a good example of clustering like this. I'd imagine the levels would just compound but I'd love your thoughts on the risk.

Thanks!

There are no convincingly demonstrated health risks associated with power lines.

As there is no scientifically derived threshold there is no point in measuring fields, as you have nothing to compare the measurement to.

Power lines are, however, bad for the eyes. In the sense that they are aesthetically ugly, and will make the property more difficult to sell.

Danger of a storm taking a pole down and causing a fire.

I wouldn't worry about safety.
But, it just has to be ugly as homemade sin...

Show a picture of what kind of lines you're talking about.... small residential lines, or big transit lines?

I also wouldn't worry about safety. It's funny to me because people often notice and worry about the safety of transmission lines running over head in the country, but don't think about all the power infrastructure that MUST be running underground and out of sight, to power our cities.

So these are lines *like* those around this house, but not the actual neighborhood?

No offense....... But I wouldn't buy a home with power poles present.

An absolute eyesore and terrible resale value and always the possibility of a wire hitting your house and causing a fire.

Correct, I'd prefer not to give the address but the poles and attached lines and how they hang is exactly like what's over this house I'm considering.

It's in the Bay Area so resale value is always an important factor but the market is wild here and I it stays hottish until I sell .

I'm mostly concerned about the health risk. Fire risk is a good point...

If you touch the power lines you will die... so don't do that. lol

Do you ever see millions of dead birds who perch on power lines? No you don't. Utility workers have no known increase in health issues related to EMF. Do you know what a barehand lineman is?
