Why I HATE HOA's!!!

So far our HOA has been great. No HOA is perfect. No neighbor is perfect.
Sheesh people, lighten up. I dont see why theres so much discord
over this subject.

My same comment stands. You don't like HOAs, stay out of them. Otherwise shut the hell up. There's tens of thousands of developments WITHOUT HOAs. Get over it already.

The title of this thread is WHY the OP hates HOAs. As such, the contributions by every respondent detailing the good, the bad, and the ugly have performed a valuable service in providing information to make a housing decision that might make or break their quality of life.

If we all "shut the hell up" about issues, why, then, there wouldn't be any forums.

I sold a house last year. Having an HOA did nothing - absolutely nothing - to "preserve my home value".

When it came time to price the house for sale, the comps were based on zip code. Well, the zip code includes a mix of HOA and non-HOA neighborhoods so it all equalled out. No HOA advantage there.

Sure, the HOA took excellent care of the entranceway, the landscaping and so forth. But "preserve my home value"? No way.
