I currently live in a small town in the southwest, looking for a second home. Looking for cheap housing with big city ammenities.

Thanks,

Generally, "desirable, hip, safe neighborhood" and "cheap" don't go together. What city or cities are you interested in?

I would think it would depend on your interests and preferences for things like weather, and area of the country. Also, what does "cheap" mean to you?

Pick the 5 largest cities in each State and you will find "cheap housing with big city ammenities."

Now, you may not want to live in some of those States for some reason.
You may not think the prices were "cheap", since that is such a subjective term.
Your idea of "big city ammenities" may not be the same as someone else's.

You may want to get a wall map of the US and a box of darts. Stand back about 10 feet and throw a few. That will narrow your search some. I can tell you, that no matter where you pick, you will be able to find cheap housing, but it will be relative to the town you are in.

I can tell you that some really cool downtown lofts in Knoxville are going for anywhere from mid $100's to $800K. But that may only be a good down payment on a loft in say, New York City.

Why not tell us what kind of price range you are thinking of, and what interests you have, as well as the climate you would like to have. We could probably help a lot better if we knew that info.

Without any additional information I'd say either London or NYC - both are outstanding. Neither are cheap.
