If someone put in a bid on a short sale, were the highest bid, supposedly the bid is sitting at the bank and when one checks online they see the house is pending...and the buyer has not heard anything from their agent about it, does that mean that they might have gotten the house, say in the last day or so? Or maybe it just was accepted and the agent had not heard in the last day or so? Curious..

we put a bid on a short sale about 2 months ago, were the highest bid...bank was working on it and the owner was working with the bank to get it ok'd..this was about a week ago..just wondering if something else might have happened..

You never know except have your agent continue to follow up. I know that sometimes agents will go ahead and change the status to stop showings if they're getting too much activity and it's annoying the seller when they want a particular contract to get approved, but who knows.

I'm curious on how you know you're the highest bidder. If you know, all the other buyers would also have to know so everyone is on the same playing field, and if they know they aren't the highest bidder, how do you know one of them didn't come back with another offer higher? The listing agent can't tell you something like that unless he/she tells everyone.

Short Sales are grey areas in the MLS, most people do not know how to handle them.

Are they:

Pending when the seller accepts them?
Pending when the bank accepts them?
Contingent (on seller, which is weird) until the bank signs off?

They might show pending because the seller accepted it, even though the bank hasn't yet.

The bank told the listing agent we were high bidder is what we were told..you would think at least if a higher offer came in they would give us an opportunity to increase our offer. It's not a huge deal..we did call our agent this morning and he thought it might be that because our offer is still sitting there the listing agent put it as pending..he said we should hear something in the next few days..we'll see...

Only the listing broker can mark it pending, in every MLS I have ever heard of. SO the selling broker believes an offer has been accepted. If your agent hasn't heard from anyone telling them YOURS was accepted, I doubt that it was. And if it was, then there are serious communications issues somewhere in the chain. Have your agent get an answer, QUICKLY.

Hmm...that makes sense..maybe we didn't get it..which is ok..and I am guessing that there is miscommunication in those real estate offices there, seems when we were selling there always seemed to be a missing piece..thanks for your help by the way...I appreciate this board..

Correct, only the listing broker can make the status change from active to pending in the MLS. Your agent hasn't heard back yet regarding whether or not your offer was accepted most likely. In my experience short sales can take sometimes up to 9 months. Good Luck.

The listing agent on the short sale we submitted an offer on never notified our agent that a higher offer had been accepted. Our agent hadn't heard anything for a month regarding our offer, so she called the listing agent and he said a higher offer had already been accepted. So they don't always tell everyone.
