I read that a stinky home is a deal breaker. I am third generation smell remover. While we deal with commercial stuff. Like when you go into a building that used to be a fish market. Yes we got the smell out. Making a dumpster not stink up a building is even on my list. Your smoke and normal odors are easy for me. Not sure if a house would pay enough for my supplies and time.

So how much would you pay to remove bad odors from a house?

It depends on whether it is permanent, temporary, or a cover up. What is the cost to the smell remover to do a permanent job? Would it not depend on how wide spread and the source of the odors?

It seems like it would depend on the smell, and how hard it is to remove.

We bought our first home from the original owners who had smoked in it for 25 years. By removing all of the carpets and draperies, scrubbing down the walls with
TSP, cleaning the windows and painting every room and the kitchen cabinets and all doors we eliminated the smell. Doing it ourselves it still cost hundreds with the cost of materials and paint, new window coverings and carpet. Even if you could have removed the smell, would you have removed the ugly yellow staining from everything? I would expect that work today, done by a professional to be several thousand.

At the other end of the scale, a dead rodent in the attic or crawl space is a 10 minute job to remove, and the smell goes away with it.
