In Chicago you don't need broker and if you use one are not charged broker fees...that's not to say they are not built in to the overall cost. Personally, I've always found rentals via The Reader.com or craigslist.com. You can also use rental locators like Hunter or Apartment People (there are many more but I don't know all the names). I would first figure out where you want to live, what amenities you require and go from there. There are so many good neighborhoods here, it shouldn't be too hard to find one that suites your needs.
