October is my "learn to cook or die trying" month so I'm trying to come up with a dinner menu so I can do my grocery shopping. I came up with my meat dishes pretty easily by rotating fish, chicken, beef, pork, etc but I'm having a hard time with side dishes. All I can think of is veggies with mashed potatoes of veggies with Rice. Definitely don't want to eat that every day but I can't think of anything else.
Can someone direct me to a website, book or magazine that gives like suggestions for a whole meal. I guess I'm not too creative when it comes to picking side dishes and have a habit of picking things that don't go together.
I've found the Southern Living recipes to be authentic and delicious. I get their book of recipes every year, but they also have a website that includes recipes, menus and shopping lists. More here --> MyRecipes.com - Find the Best Recipes, Dinner Ideas, and Menus
Also, Food.com - Thousands Of Free Recipes From Home Chefs With Recipe Ratings, Reviews And Tips has menu listings, and thousands upon thousands of rated recipes. I think if you go to the bottom of their home page, it lists "menus" somewhere. Come to think of it, they used to be called Recipezaar, so an above poster already suggested it. But it really is a great site, and you can save recipes on it.
Try Mediterranean Harvest by Martha Shulman. The recipes aren't overly complicated and don't require a gazillion specialized ingredients like some foodie/gourmet cookbooks do. But it doesn't have glossy photos if that's what you need to tantalize your taste buds.
Polenta makes a great side dish & it's an easy recipe to google. We love it both freshly cooked soft or spread in a pan to harden for later. It goes very well with parmesan cheese.
