I bought a 21# ham for Thanksgiving, very yummy and full of fat. Now I'm wondering about some recipes incorporating the fat. The flavor is too delecate for frying or scrambling eggs. I tried some as a spread on toast, but again, too delicate a flavor. I do plan to make split pea soup, but know that I can't dump all of it into the soup. I hate to dump it as I have always done, trained by mother and wife to do so, because it has a really great taste. Any suggestions?

I got this off the web.. Hope it helps..

stovetop rendering in cast iron skillet on medium heat -- or lower. Cut different sizes (for different purposes), but mostly around 1" x 1-1/2".
(before you start, make sure you dry off any water moisture that may have condensed on the fat). Cracklin's are good hot from the skillet!

otherwise, use:
in cornbread,
on salad,
on top of grits (with butter, too -- i mean, why not go all out?),
with shrimp and garlic, stir-fried,
on collards or mustard greens.
in mayo on top of a good tomato.
in a whitebread sandwich, while they're still warm and a little greasy -- maybe with a fried egg.
in deviled eggs.
on a baked russet loaded with butter, sour cream, shredded cheddar!

Maybe use to saute veggies, add to lean beef to add flavor? Feed it to the cats & dogs?

IMO, dump it. You can save enough fat from fry'n 1/2# bacon to last a month or longer.

I'd never give my pets fat. I gave my two dogs and cat a little ham, but carefully cut off the fat. Do not feed your pets any fat or fowl skin.

The pieces are too small. I also don't know if this is good for birds. I'd appreciate any solid information.

I'm Tellin ya..The Buzzards..

I have a Cousin that gives all scrsps to the buzzards.. it's sort of a nasty thing to watch..
Nature is something to be watched in awe.. when you start going out and eating (dead things)
Running for the Light.. (Baby Sea Turtles)..
Just going to your little hole after you mate..(have wild sex for humans..)
I know..Off topic.. Just see some of these things.. Awesome.
