What are some of your favorite recipes for yams/sweet potatoes? Do you like "candied yams?"

Everybody raves about these yams when I make them:

Healthy Candied Yams

peel 4-5 yams
cut into slices

Toss in a bowl with 2 tablespoons olive oil, 1/4 cup maple syrup, a few dashes of nutmeg & 1/2 t cinnamon.

Pour mixture into baking dish.

Sprinkle layers with 1/4 cup chopped pecans.

Bake at 375 degrees until tender. (Mine took approximately 1 1/2 hr.)

My response is my recipe for:

Unhealthy Candied Yams or Sweet Potatoes

Peel and slice into 1" slices/ Then boil until quite tender.

Place in a shallow baking dish. Place butter on top. Then pour on to the potatoes either brown sugar, molasses, maple syrup, or a mixture thereof. Top with cinnamon or nutmeg if you like.

Broil for a couple of minutes.

I prefer brown sugar with just a touch of maple syrup or molasses and sprinkled with a bit of cinnamon. Try making several varieties for a gathering; people will gorge themselves.

I love my grannys recipe.... peel, cut, and boil 3 to 5 potaotes (amount depends on how big of a dish you would like to make). Blend cooked potatoes with milk, butter, sugar, nutmeg, cinnamon, and 1 or 2 eggs. spoon mixture into a baking dish. Bake on 350 untill almost set. In a pot on the stove combine brown sugar, butter and carnation evaporated milk. bring to a boil then remove from stove. pour brown sugar mixture and pecans over sweet potatoes and continue to bake for about another 20 mins.

The sad part is we don't use measurements, we just eye it and taste as we go. love this on Thanksgiving.

The only way I will eat them is sliced thin, deep fried, then sprinkled with cinnamon & sugar.

I made sweet potato gratin for Thanksgiving which was basically sliced sweet potato layered with Parmesan cheese, heavy cream poured over and topped with more cheese. It tasted amazing but the calorie factor was ridiculous.

I do not care for candied yams, but I love them baked plain or cut up and roasted with other veggies.

For a holiday meal, I make this:

Yummy Sweet Potato Casserole Recipe - Allrecipes.com

I made this dish for Thanksgiving and Christmas.

i just been poking one or two throwing it in the microwave for 5 minutes, checking them.
Then halving if they are done I cut lines thru the halves and butter them and add brown sugar. Yummy
