I thought I would jumpstart this thread since it is that time of year....
Actually I am wondering if you all can make recommendation on a bakery I can buy 4-5 dozen traditional cut out Christmas cookies with frosting that I won't have to cough up $4 per. It seems like the old family bakery has gone by the wayside..

Thanks for bumping up this thread, I am getting ready to make a platter of mixed cookies for hubby's work. Last year I gave everyone individual bags of cookies but it was so much work.
This year I am going lazy and making a huge platter and supply bags for them to take what they want home.
INGREDIENTS:
1 cup butter
1 cup pecans
1/4 cup powdered (confectioner’s) sugar + extra to coat cookies
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 cups flour
PREPARATION:
Soften butter by letting it stand for 30-45 minutes at room temperature OR cut into chunks and allow to stand for 15 minutes at room temperature.
DIRECTIONS:
1) Preheat oven to 325 degrees F.
2) Pulse pecans and sugar in food processor until finely ground, then transfer to a mixing bowl.
3) Add butter and vanilla until smooth. Add flour.
4) With floured hands (or use baking spray), shape dough into 1-inch balls.
5) Bake 15 minutes or until the edges are starting to turn golden brown.
6) Roll warm cookies in powdered sugar. Let completely cool before coating in powdered sugar a second time.

1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
2 eggs
1/3 cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 cups Quaker Old Fashioned Oats
1 1/2 cups Craisins Dried Cranberries
1 cup white chocolate morsels
Parchment paper, optional
DIRECTIONS:
1) Preheat oven to 375° F.
2) Sift together the flour, baking soda, salt, and ground cinnamon. Set aside.
3) In a large mixing bowl, cream together the Crisco, sugar, and brown sugar. Add eggs, buttermilk, and vanilla. Gradually beat in flour mixture.
4) Stir in oats, Craisins, and white chocolate morsels.
5) Place golf ball-sized dough portions 2-inches apart onto greased cookie sheet or parchment paper. Flatten slightly.
6) Bake for 12 minutes. Do not overbake.

My mom makes these except she rolls the cookies in granulated sugar.
