I don't eat dairy, so I make my own ranch.

Mayo, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, pepper, and dill weed, and almond milk to thin it out.

I just drizzle some balsamic vinegar, sprinkle some salt, pepper, and whatever herbs, then mix it all up.

In addition to the recipe I posted earlier, I've recently been dressing my salads with a vinaigrette made from lemon-infused olive oil and a cherry balsamic vinegar I received as a holiday gift. So delicious!

Default Home-made salad dressing

Please share your delicious salad dressing secret .

I guess olive oil (or other oils) and vingenar are in 99% of the dressing. Garlic in most, too.

Anything special that makes a difference in a very tasty dressing? Also, if I put oil and vingenar, it's often too watery.

Thanks.

I like fresh ground ginger, soy sauce, and rice vinegar in my dressing.

Chinese Salad Dressing

*3/4 cup Rice vinegar (You can use white vinegar)
*1/4 cup Honey or Sugar
*1/4 to 1/3 cup Soy sauce (depends on your need for a fix of soy sauce!)
*1 tbsp Sesame seeds
*1 large clove garlic
*2 to 3 tsp fresh ginger (again, depends on how sharp you want the finished dressing)
*2 tbsp fresh cilantro, stems removed
*1/4 to 1/2 tsp. Chinese 5-Spice
*2/3 cup Canola oil
*3 tbsp Sesame Oil

**Optional: Mayonnaise

Place the chinese 5-spice star, cilantro, garlic, sesame seeds, ginger and garlic in the bottom of a food processor. Add the sesame oil and puree. Now add the rest of the liquid ingredients. Blend until all is smooth.
**If you would like a creamier dressing, add a couple of dollops of mayonnaise to the food processor after all the other ingredients are smooth. This dressing keeps for months (either way) in the fridge.

You can use sour cream and/or mayonnaise in place of all or part of the olive oil for a thicker dressing. You can add catsup or bbq sauce for variety. Dill,. fines herbs, or herbs de provence make nice seasonings.

I'm not sure about that.
Edit: Yeah, I guess you're right - Catalina dressing has ketchup in it.
