which is your choice and why? I use the cubes hoping it is as good as the liquid broth that you buy in a store---like chicken broth or beef broth. Any opinions?

It depends on what I'm making. In addition, bouillon cubes, or even granules, are generally much higher in sodium.

However, that's not a consideration for us. For example, I make a particular noodle dish, and nothing but bouillon cubes will do for that lol. For soups and stews, I use canned broth.

The good thing is that there's something for everyone.

I buy both. I use the broth and throw part of a cube into my soup or whatever it is I'm making.

I always buy canned, or rather broth in flexible containers, single servings...does not taste like the can metal.

...cubes are way too salty and don't have the shelf life as canned does...
they tend to get sticky to where you can't get the wrapping off.

You should have a Wegmans in your neck of the woods. Theirs is the only canned chicken broth I buy, and there's no "tinny" taste. They sell the low-sodium, too, but I don't get that.

I'm in the middle, I use the liquid concentrates. It's been a LONG time since I made that switch, so I don't really remember the exact reasoning, but it had to be along the lines of the best value for the taste. I try to go for the best ingredients I can get, and while home made broth is far superior, there is a convenience equation tossed in too.



I've tried to do cubes in the recent past and all I got out of them was "salty" with a slight chemical tang.

Broth always.

Cubes are nothing but little cubes of salt.

Neihter. If I need broth, I make it from scratch.
If I need cubes to improve taste, I use powder or granules. Something like this:

I use it instead of plain salt on just about everything- add to cooked potatoes, pasta, rice, veggies, meats and fish. Yes, it has lots of salt, but also other spices, pulverized veggies etc. So, it's actually something like seasoned salt, but those products have less than 50% salt listed. The blends are really so much better than cubes or just plain salt.

We buy the Kitchen Basics unsalted broth in waxed cardboard/paper boxes so no tinny taste. Looking at the ingredients, KB seems to be the best non-organic chicken broth we can find. We also buy their other broths, but I still have a problem with the beef broth. Every single one on the market has a funny aftertaste to me, so, if we are having something like French Onion soup where the beef broth is front and center, I suck it up and make my own, then freeze.



No cubes at all. Hubby did buy some plastic jars of paste that are refrigerated once opened and have to be dissolved in water. They are okay in a pinch, but in no way my favorite. I forgot the brand name, but he got it in a restaurant supply store so it's not available in regular groceries.

I do use the cubes sometimes, in a home made soup, but that is in a large pot, with lots of liquid, so it is not too salty.

I do not buy the canned broth, it is nothing but lightly flavored water at a very expensive price.

I will make my own chicken broth & vegetable broth, a few times per year, & save them in the freezer one cup per bag. Broth is so cheap & easy to make at home. However, I do use the jars of chicken or ham base for a soup starter sometimes.
