As a counterpoint to the "best" thread, please list and discuss your least favorite romance movies here.

Movies I typically detest fall into several categories:

Movies about rotten people I'm supposed to like.
  • The Breakup - Spiteful, unlikeable people. I hated Jennifer Aniston's character and the scene about the lemons. I actually got in an argument with a friend of mine over this dumb movie--she thought Vince Vaughn was in the wrong.
  • The Family Stone - Another movie about a bunch of unlikeable people. You know the kind, where you realize you hate all the characters? A whole family of nasties; a brittle, uptight girlfriend; and a very stupid ending.
Almost any movie that involves what I call, "Can Their Love Survive the Lie?"
  • Failure to Launch
  • How to Lose a Man in 10 Days
  • Pretty much any romcom with Kate Hudson or Matthew McConaughey
Movies that don't have a happy ending. Yes, I know art imitates life, but if I want dreary reality, I'll watch the news.
  • Shopgirl (actually, I don't remember the end, just that I disliked it)
  • Match Point

Falling in Love-Meryl Streep and Robert Deniro. While I like to watch it I just can't get over these two cheating on their spouses and we're supposed to be rooting for them. I always think, Hello why don't you just get the ball$ to tell your spouses it's over and THEN you can get together.

Ugh, I despise romance movies.

And you are so right about Kate Hudson or Matthew McConaughey...horrible actors making equally awful movies.

Most are pretty bad. They usually lose me early on when the guy gets the girl soooo easily! Usually an alcohol-drenched one-night stand. Then the guy acts like a major jerk and we watch for an hour as he tries to get her back.

.... well maybe this IS more like real life.

We watched "Love Happens" recently with Jennifer Aniston and it was just so trite and predictable. Awful and we turned it off before it was all over.

JustJulia, totally have to agree about The Family Stone, it was contrived and the characters were all just awful people. One of the worst movies I think I have ever seen!

Minnie and Moskowitz. It's a Cassavetes movie from the 70s, and my movie buff friends love it. It's awful.

Much as I hate to say it: Say Anything. Lloyd Dobler is kind of stalkery, even though his heart's in the right place.
