Is it a waste of time to meet new friends, have fun and have new experiences ? No I'd say it's not. All those negative posts you read are some pretty negative people who are the reason their time is wasted.
Maybe I will try it out sometime. These days I have been keeping myself busy working out and on my Master program. Funny thing was I never bother going to gym and trying get into shape till just few months ago. I am at gym at my workplace for 1 hour+, 5 days a week.

I think you can tell from my post, these days I don't think a long-term relationship or marriage is needed for a "full and productive life." Funny thing was 1 year ago, I still though one day finding a girl to marry and having kids was absolutely an important part of life. However, my recent serious research of marriage / relationship seem reveal too many problem. I mean just look at this relationship forum and mount of problems you hear about. Maybe, I need read a lot of marriage/relationship success stories to actually restore my faith in it.

Please don't base your opinion of relationships based on what you read here. What you read on line is a compression of people who come here with problems. This would be a very boring forum if it was the perfectly happy, well adjusted, few problem couples. It's a lot like watching Dr Phil or Oprah, you're going to see the people with problems.

I've seen many a guy with a graduate degree try to be logical on illogical subjects and they can't make sense of it. Relationships are not something you can do a spread sheet and analyze everything into a clean neat box.

Nobody can analyze a female where they make sense. They're complex, are a lot of work but sure are fun to have around. Sure beats sitting at home playing video games.

Congrats on hitting the gym, you'll feel better about yourself.
