Why is it that when men sleep around, they get praised and all pat each other on the back and brag about it, but if a woman just dates a few people because she wants to be a bit picky before making any commitments, everyone looks down on her?

More important question...
Why would a grownup, mature woman CARE what others think of her for being true to her values and taking her time to be sure she makes the best choices for herself?
I am not saying it is right, but really - this can't come as news to you?
It's because of traditional societal/gender/power balance roles and the predjudice and expectations that come with them, and society's eager will to pass judgement, if you want an answer.
I don't look down on women who date several guys while deciding what they want and who best matches them. I don't even look down on them if they have sex with the guys they're dating. And I do look down on guys who play around. However, I'm probably not typical! LOL
Basically, social attitudes haven't caught up with changing times. They will, eventually, but it may take another generation or two. Even then, there are plenty of social and religious conservatives who will perpetuate biased attitudes.
I find it totally depends on the crowd you surround yourself with. When I'm dating multiple people (playing the field) I hang out with my single friends-no one passes judgment. Everyone's in the same boat you are.

Exactly. I have zero friends, NOT A ONE, who would pat a guy on the back for catting around and cheating.
Sometimes you just have to surround yourself with better friends.

Hold the phone. Aren't you the guy who brags about boinking married women?

That's because despite what everyone may think women have not achieved true equality in our society. Its a double standard that still sitcks in this day and age.
A man sleeps with a hundred women and he is a ladies man, praised around the world by all his wanna be macho men friends. Whereas a woman who sleeps with a hundred men is a a *lut and a *****.
