A woman in a loving relationship shouldn't have to "fish" for compliments. If your woman is fishing for compliments, I think it's a sign that you are not telling her often enough how beautiful she is.
Good lovers never miss an opportunity to boost each other up. It really isn't hard to figure out.
The question reminds me of the Geico commercial where Lincoln's wife asks him if she looks big in the rear. If you answered either way you were about to get into an arguement.

You can boost each other up, not just the man to the woman, but not sure if it would be necessary to lie just to inflate someone's ego.
I've found that it's usually skinny women that ask if they look fat. Fat women know they're fat and don't ask... I'm chubby and know I look weird in certain outfits, I'm not stupid. But for some reason super skinny girls always have to be reassured that they're not getting fat.

If a skinny woman asked me this, I'd probably just tell her she's huge to see her reaction. Of course I'm kidding, but I'd try to keep a straight face throughout the jab.
Now, if you're my GF, my reply would be "Of course not! Now tak'em off!"
