How could that be? For every woman that's in a relationship there is a man and vice versa.
How do you figure? Not everyone is monogamous.
Just go to a college campus. The starting QB for the football team has a rotation of maybe 10 or 20 'girlfriends.' Typical frat boy has maybe 2 or 3 'girlfriends'. Guys in the computer science department have 1 potential girlfriend per every 10 guys.
How could that be? For every woman that's in a relationship there is a man and vice versa. Then why does it seem like there are a lot more single men then women.
Do a Google search and type in "Never had a girlfriend" in quotes and do the same with "Never had a boyfriend". Never had a girlfriend gets more results.
Examples,
Bars and clubs: Anyone who has been to a bar or club in this country knows there are soooo many more dudes compared to single women. I know there are a few exceptions but for the most part you know ur in for a sausage party.
From what ive seen on maps, anything north of san francisco going towards seattle have a high proportion of men than women. The east coast places like nyc, philly boston have alot of females.
well I think your theory about women dating the same men is probable , but It wouldn't make all that difference of course , as there aren't really much of those cases.
Only about 10% of men can pull it off but they can pull it off big time, if they wish. All the women think they are "the one" and are usually completely unaware about what is going on. It is more frequent than you think and ties up much of the available talent.
However, what is more important is that once women have had an experience with such men, most guys are of little or no interest to them. Perhaps when they are approaching 40, they might realize that they have to settle, but they won't be happy about it. Such marriages are about as likely to succeed as between 18 year-olds.
Why is the ratio of never-married men to never-married women at 35 and up skewed? There are always fewer never-married women. The most reasonable explanation is multiple marriages to a guy who is an idiot ... or they are idiots for marrying him. Still, there is an imbalance. You would think that never-marrieds would be there in more or less equal numbers.
One thing that none of these articles appear to be taking into account is the age range of men versus women in these areas. The researchers only compare the number of unmarried (that can include widowed, divorced, and never married) men over the age of 15 to the number of unmarried (again, including widowed, divorced, and never married) women over the age of 15.
We know that women outlive men, and that for all persons over the age of 60, women outnumber men. We know that women especially outnumber men in the 80+ age range.
Taking that into account when looking at the 2010 census data for the Greater DC area, it is possible to come up with a very different understanding of the statistics than what is reported in the article links in this forum.
We would see, for example, that 50% of all persons in the 35-39 age bracket living in Washington, DC, in the 2010 census are never married. That doesn't take into account the percentage of widowed and divorced; if it did, the number of singles would rise even higher. The 2010 census for Washington DC also shows about a 50-50 ratio of never married men to never married women in the city itself, in the 35-39 age bracket. When looking at the percentages in the Maryland portion of the Greater DC area, we see slightly (like, 1%) more never married women in that age bracket than never married men. But if we then look at the Northern Virginia portion of the Greater DC area, we see slightly (like, 1%) more never married men in that age bracken than never married women.
Basically, the percentage of never married women to never married men in the greater DC area, up to the age of 60, is very close, and it isn't really skewed until you start looking at octogenarians. This doesn't mean that all of those "never married" individuals are actually available, heterosexual singles. Indeed, many may be cohabiting, and there is a large gay population (both gay men and women) in the DC metro area.
But it hardly means there is an overabundance of single women to single men on the East Coast.
It probably does mean that there is an overabundance of single men to single women on the West Coast - again, taking into account that there are many more single female senior citizens than men in those age brackets; if you are comparing ratios of single men to single women up to the age of 60 in West Coast cities, you probably will see even more single men than you see when taking all those elderly widows into account.
How could that be? For every woman that's in a relationship there is a man and vice versa. Then why does it seem like there are a lot more single men then women.
I suspect because women often choose to spend parts of their lives--sometimes even large parts of their lives--single. Men almost never make this choice. As a result, men who are not in relationships are constantly looking for women, while women not in relationships are not constantly looking for men.
OP, if you want to use figures from bars and POF, all you are showing is that there are a lot more men who want mindless one night hook-ups than there are women wanting the same. There are many single women who do not go into meat markets or onto POF, because, as a generalization, the men there do not behave well.
Of course, for men of all ages who can not settle for anything but a slim woman under the age of 30, that does leave a lot of men after a smaller available pool.
Also, single guys, keep in mind that something like 50% of married men are also out there trying to snare a date with a woman who is not their wife. So, you are also competing with them.
