My answer would be, "yes, I do."

I'm not showing her my savings account or 401k statement. Being able to pay your bills comfortably doesn't mean you're rich. You might make $75k/year and live well below your means or make $750k/year and live somewhat lavishly but still below your means.

Having said that, a woman asking that question early on is a red flag. Money matters to her enough to ask but the question is why. Is it because she's dated lots of crappy guys? Is it because she makes a lot of money and wants to live a certain lifestyle? Is it because she's struggling financially and wants someone that can help her out?

None of her da** buisness! I'm a female and I think someone asking that is rude. It's a simple date for goodness sakes!

I'd say

Yeah, it pays enough to cover MY bills, not mine and someone else's.

Look her in the eyes for a bit, then laugh in her face. Then tease her relentlessly about being a gold digger the rest of the night. Either she sees her f up and we have a fun night or she clams up and you then know what she was about.

I'd say "Sure, I do. Do you?" This is pretty crass for a first date question, but maybe shes been burned in the past. I'd probably also ask why she asked, but that's just me.

As some of the lyrics of that song are;
Your sex is on fire,
consumed,
we're the ones,
what's to transpire?

I might have said, sure, of course I can pay my bills, then
suggested that we go back to her place for a nightcap.

Since she thinks that's ok to ask I'll just ask her "How many men have you had sex with?" Now the woman will say that's none of your business. That's the point. It's none of your business what i decide to do with my money. Then I ask for separate checks and leave.
