Some years ago I did this. My divorced mother-in-law was 51, but in very healthy condition. I knew that she liked to wear thongs, garter belts, stockings, etc. because she showed me.
So, being a considerate SIL, I decided to get something she'd really appreciate.
For Christmas I bought her a nice set of racey, lacey underwear, for about $200. Nice stuff, well designed, silk, and very appealing.
MIL came over for Christmas Day as we unwrapped presents. Just the three of us, MIL, my wife, and me. MIL gasped with excitement as she opened her package. She hugged me with gratitude. My wife looked at me with bewildered eyes. I wanted to cheer everyone up, so I suggested that MIL should put on the underwear and show us how nice it looks. MIL liked the idea, but wife became very sour.
Anyway, who else thinks it's okay buy sexy underwear for a mom-in-law?

I'm of the mind that a man should only buy lingerie for a woman that he wants to see wearing it. Clearly you do, which I'm sure your wife's not thrilled about .
I'm with your wife. I wouldn't want my husband buying anyone but me lingerie, especially not my mother!
Whether they look good in them or not is irrelevant; it's simply inappropriate.
If my SIL bought my sexy underwear, I would assume he had lost his mind!
