There are some people who laugh, where the harmonious sounds touch your soul, and you eagerly anticipate hearing/seeing them laugh again. It can even be a body-shaking laugh; real, true laughter.

And there are those whose laughter I find grating. Some people laugh inappropriately, they laugh at jokes they don't even find funny, faked or forced laughter, or it has a sound that can be very disconcerting.

I was standing in line behind a couple the other day, and this woman's frequent laughter was very irritating to me, I almost found myself pitying her husband, trying to imagine him encountering that type of screechy, hollow laughter year after year. This is one woman I wouldn't want to tell a joke to!

How about you? Has laughter ever been a turn-off in any of your relationships, a potential deal breaker?

I wouldn't say turned off but yes annoyed. I know this one chick who has the weirdest most annoying laugh. She would laugh pause laugh pause (it might not seem annoying reading it but if u hear it in person it is). So basically at the end of a laugh shes laughing with her mouth moving and no sound its trippy

I have never been turned off by anyone's laughter, but I have totally despised someone's breathing.

No one's laugh has turned me off, but someone's low deep chuckle has turned me on.

Default glad someone posted this topic

I was thinking about posting this topic. yes, chronic annoying laughter sounds fake and it's annoying to hear the same person in the office next door laughing constantly all day

in fact, it's also annoying to have those same people try to get me to laugh when i have better things to do so i just walk past such people without responding

some get offended, some don't, those who get offended **** them!

I have an acquaintance whose "laughter" irritates me so much that I have visions of wrapping her mouth in duct tape or, worse, stapling her lips shut. It sounds like the braying of a constipated donkey with hemorrhoids.

Yes in 2 cases;
I have a female friend who laughs in a tone that can cut an ear off when she's drunk,
and there there was this time when i was in Finland and ran into a girl who laughed like a tortured hyena.
