I would. I asked a man out to the movies last year that did not have a car. He was in the military and worked and lived in the same place. He did ride a bike though....

I personally don't mind driving so it's not a big deal.

Depends on the circumstances. In my state and town, no I wouldn't date a guy without a car. In San Francisco, New York? Yes, I would. Or in the example just given.

Why is there not a lot of public transportation or taxis in your state and town ?

If I were, as you, in the "Middle of the ocean," I'd be more interested in whether or not he had a boat.

I'm not a woman, but I have to agree it depends on the situation. I'd be embarrassed to ask any girl out if I didn't have a car where I live, because you practically need one to get around here. But if I was in a walkable city like San Fransisco, I wouldn't care as much if I didn't have one.

Well, seeing as how I lived in NYC for 12 years - sure, I would. I only knew a few people that had cars. I didn't have a car. Having a car in NYC is actually more of a nuisance than a convenience.
