I was kind of wondering about that myself. I researched the "little houses" a while back and they were all home-grown varieties - this guy is just running a business and trying to make a profit, I suppose.
Yeah - make a small footprint and a fat wallet.
I had the inclination to build a utility building w/an upstairs loft to do hobby stuff totaling about 400-500 sq ft. The lumber alone was would have only cost aroung $2500.
Thank you, MM. Unfortunately, I got the house just months before that "restructuring" happened... But at this point... the way things are... even if weren't for the house... I can't do it.
Start looking for another job while still working at this one. Even with the poor economy, people are still getting employed. Spending over 40 hours a week at a place you can't stand is a nightmare, I've been there.

Two months after we bought our condo the wife's company announced the closing of the center she works at. Feel your pain there.

Yeah, that guy must be using old-growth mahogany for the studs.
The IDEA of living small is very appealing to me these days, both because I've hit the age where I don't NEED a lot of space and because I've had too much experience keeping big places going.
The other thing with me has been all the approvals you need to build anything - huge turn-off. It would probably be a bit easier with a small place like that.

When we bought this condo that was one of our goals, though we downsized the physical space its probably more along the lines of simplifying- no exterior maintenance (for me), new place that doesn't require remodeling/updating.
I just wanted to tell you that you're listening to a dream
