Since there the topic of the terrible letter from the MIL to the DIL, I'm just wondering if any tension with in-laws has ever been so bad that it caused divorces.

Has anyone had any experience or know anyone that experiences this?

[quickly raises hands] My inlaws didn't simply cause the divorce, they took complete charge, by finding a lawyer, filing for divorce etc.

MIL was the direct cause of the divorce. Too many years of being married to her and her son was just too much for me. I hope they are very happy together.

Indirectly. They spawned her and then instilled the attitudes that eventually led to the breakdown of the marriage!

I've often thought of writing a book on it...it'll be the stuff of Holywood. But you know something? It was the best thing that happened to me, so I am grateful to them.

In-laws can definitely be a major cause for break ups.

It was part of it. Son was turning out just like his garbage mother. Also who she was made me uncomfortable to have kids around. (drugs, inappropriate sex stuff) If I would die no way in hell would I want her to raise any future kids. My parents are older so they would not of been able to do it.

I think that only happens when your spouse does not do a good job of setting boundaries and standing up for his wife/husband. WHen your married your allegiance needs to be to your wife/husband, not your parents.
