I feel that a relationship lasts when a couple truly loves eachother before they partake in the actual act of sex. So many relationships are based on lust and obviously lust doesn't last forever, and so when the lust fades the relationship will as well.
I also feel as though physical attraction fades, so when someone has an interest in another person based solely on looks, they are destined to have a failing relationship.
