OK, so I bought my GF a REALLY nice necklace for Christmas & she loved it & said that I had done good & she promised never to take it off. Her family thought it was very beautiful as well, in the past I can remember a womAns friends opnion of what her BF bought her was very important. Not that I can either way just as long as she likes it then I'm happy. For the women here do you care what your female friends think about what kind of jewerly your SO bought you? Where did this come from? And if so why does it matter?
No. I don't care.
And I don't know where that stereotype comes from, as most women I know care more about their own opinion of their fine jewelry than they do about other people's.
I could see it where in the old days when furs or jewelry were much more of status symbols, kind of like a man saying he's gonna take me out for a steak dinner. It used to be about proving that your man can take care of you. Nowadays if a woman wants jewelry she can get it herself if she wants.
Whether women are competitive about jewelry depends on whether the woman is competitive about anything with her friends.
The only item I still see young women getting show-offy about is the diamond engagement ring.
But if a woman cares TOO much about that stuff, look out!
No because he didn't buy it for my friends. He bought it for me. People who are critical about things like that don't deserve to know what's going on in my life. This is why my life is private unless I trust your judgment.

Agree with this. The only time I showed off jewelry that my husband bought me was when we got engaged. Ironically, the only piece of jewelry I've never taken off since the day he gave it to me is a simple silver "Cape Cod style" bangle I've been wearing for the past 10 years.
I have a 20-something male coworker who was so excited this Christmas b/c he bought his girlfriend a necklace. It was the first time he'd ever gotten jewelry for a girlfriend. He bought it to work first to get our opinions. It was a hippie-style piece with a leather cord and some pretty beads hanging from it. He was so proud of it, and of course we all told him she'd love it, which she did.
No. I don't care.

Agree.
I'm the one that will be wearing it so the only opinion that matters is mine.
