well a 97 Expedition for $500. Body is in great shape. High mileage. It had a misfire, which I fixed with a new coilpack. I bought a diagnostic scanner which confirmed my suspicion. I got it running and back together. Needs a bit of tuning, I will have a good vehicle to pull the camper, drive in really bad weather, go camping, offroading. I am even thinking of adding a snowplow.
The bigger truck is on the back burner for now. I have the parts to build a really decent landscape trailer. I am either going with 18 to 20 feet, deckover with 3 foot dove tail and ramps.
I think I might have enough material to start a dump trailer. If I do that, I will maybe find a 1 ton. However for now I am set.
I am starting to look for a tractor, that will make taking on other landscape project more sensible.

Sounds like you have a plan and have been prioritizing toward making it happen. Thats the good thing about being handy, you can make stuff like that work were somebody who doesn't have those skills cant. I rented a Navigator once and the mileage was ugly but that would have been the case with a full size truck too so that parts a push anyways.

I wasn't after mileage. We have two cars that are good on fuel. This is more toy/tool. I plan to keep my firefighting gear, an EMS bag, all that.
I put nearly 400 miles on my pickup today. I still have some issues to work out with the expedition to get it running really good. I added some work lights on the back and need to wire in a new trailer wiring harness. Also, the hitch needs some welding. Well, straightened out, welded and a gusset plate over the injured area.
