I've seen a trend recently where men in low paying jobs are called deadbeats or losers as if his only worth is tied into having a nice job. Why should a man be automatically presumed a loser if he is making $40K/year? Why is there a double standard where a woman will never be called a loser for being underemployed?
because women will always judge a man based on how much he makes, regardless of what is said here.
40k/year is fine, but that's based on where you live. Obviously someone making 40k isn't going to survive if they live in California, but if you live in middle America, you can definitely live off it, and have some things.
There was a thread created yesterday about a woman being a loser for being in debt, joblessness, etc. There is a stigma attached to a man who doesn't want to "grow up" but there have been plenty of women who've gotten criticized for similar things.
Who cares who's a "loser" or not? One person's loser is another's equal.
my dh makes much less than 40k a year. he is not without ambition or intelligence. he is an amazing father and provider and a hard worker. i think women are missing out on some wonderful men if they are just looking at his bank account.
40k a year? usually i hear unemployed, mooching men called losers...not men making 40k a year. of course it is a double standard...just like how women have to do most of the housework/childrearing even when both spouses work full-time. nothing new here. gender double standards exist
Meh, I'm pretty unambitious. People take life way too seriously imo. No one gets out alive...so why worry? As long as I have the basics, I'm good with it.
And yeah, I get the sense I'm judged negatively because of it. But, you are who you are...no sense in crying over it.
As for the double standard? Idk, get over it. At this point, what can you do about it? Just accept that reality and work with (or around) it.
The devil is in the details. Some making $40K might be very unambitious, other's may be reaching beyond what would be expected.
