An unattractive face is pretty much unfixable, basically a matter of you're stuck with what you got (minus minor corrections like keeping skin healthy and hair)

An unattractive body on the other hand is much more modifiable, and an attractive body is more tied to a person's lifestyle and outlook. Thus, body appearance is much more tied to personality in theory than facial appearance so preferring a nice body over a nice face seems like it would be the less superficial

You don't hear or see people say they prefer an attractive face over a body?

I hear it all the time, and cause face is the organ of communication, I think it's perceived as less superficial or sexual in nature.

Faces are more preferred because that's what you'll be looking at most of the time.

That wasn't my question.

Maybe I was wrong with my assumption, but isn't it perceived as less superficial to prefer a nice face over a nice body?

Because the face shows far more expression, which is more related to personality. Yes, there is body language, but it tends to be less obviously "personal".

I know what you mean and I've heard guys say that their GF is a little bigger but has a gorgeous face. I think knowing that you can work on your body to change the shape/size/tone etc is more acceptable than accepting someone with a hot body and less attractive face.

Generally I've found facial expressions are largely contingent on facial attractiveness. The smile of an attractive person lights up your day more than that of an unattractive person

which I think gets back to the point of one aspect being far more within one's control (the body) than the other (the face). I guess you could make the argument about not walking around like a sad mope all the time, even though that shows in both body & facial language
